Proposal Description
Introduction
Soarchain is a single purpose blockchain (layer 1) to enable connectivity and data layer for mobility. It offers a crypto-economic protocol that incentivizes its users to form a decentralized wireless network of cars, infrastructure and people.
As cars become more sensor-oriented and smarter, modern automobiles can perceive millions of data points per second, they do so in isolation and without context. Bringing context and higher degrees of situational awareness to vehicles is only possible with the introduction of communication and computation technologies that seamlessly integrate with the vehicles we drive and the infrastructure that we depend on. Vehicle-to-everything(V2X) communication is the key technology that will solve the problem of disconnected and contextless cars. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) is a set of wireless communication technologies that enable direct communication between vehicles and other road users, as well as infrastructure components such as traffic lights and road signs.
V2X technology has the potential to revolutionize road safety by providing real-time information to drivers and driverless systems about potential hazards on the road ahead, as well as enhancing the efficiency of traffic flow. Moreover, V2X will enable new applications such as automated parking, electric vehicle charging, pay-how-you-drive insurance, car resource sharing, cooperative adaptive cruise control, and many more. However, V2X technology has not yet taken off. One reason for this is that it requires a critical mass of vehicles to be equipped with the necessary hardware and software. Another reason is that there are still some technical challenges to overcome, such as ensuring that data is accurately and consistently transmitted between vehicles.
Soarchain
To address the challenges mentioned above, we developed Soarchain, a decentralized C-V2X network for mobility that gives vehicles the ability to collect and communicate data from their surroundings for safer, smarter and autonomous cities.
By connecting members with C-V2X technology, we provide a whole new application ecosystem that will benefit every member of the mobility space. These decentralized applications range from safety and emergency applications such as vulnerable road user detection and collision risk warning to service applications such as pay-as-you-drive insurance, vehicle diagnostics, and fleet operations. This will unlock a new data sharing ecosystem and smart contract enabled dapps for various use cases in the mobility space.
Our Devnet is out and the fast pace of development continues. The Soarchain Mainnet will be released in the first quarter of 2023. You can see the detailed road-map from here.
MOTUS
The way to connect to the Soarchain network is with our tamper-proof hardware MOTUS. MOTUS is an open-source universal connectivity module designed to communicate with other vehicles via cellular V2X technology while being connected to the mobility network with modules such as with Trusted Platform Module and Hardware Security Module on board. It offers a new way to earn crypto by rewarding vehicle-to-vehicle transactions. Due to its plug-and-play design it is ready to be used from day one and compatible with many vehicles on the market today. The device connects to vehicles via OBD-II port and is also compatible to directly connect to the CANBUS interface of some car models. In the future, it is planned to deliver different kinds of MOTUS versions for pedestrians, two-wheelers, bicycles and road side units.
The hardware is already manufactured, tested and on pre-order stage now and it is nearly sold out. For the first quarter of 2023, we plan to ship the first batch of 100 units to the customers in the US and Canada.

Proof of Availability
Proof of Availability(PoAv) is a proof to cryptographically verify whether a device made its connectivity and computational resources available for use within a specified time frame and record it on a ledger. Participants prove their availability by broadcasting standardized V2X messages through an Cellular V2X (LTE-V2X) air interface. The broadcast messages are received and verified by other network participants. Each participant in the network is expected to both broadcast and receive messages. Broadcasting honest and correct messages & receiving and verifying these messages are rewarded through the network’s incentive mechanism. As this method uses the vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) created through the LTE-V2X interface, it doesn’t depend on any central servers, base stations or intermediary nodes. Because of its interactive and cooperative nature (broadcasters/senders), it is highly optimized and doesn’t require any off-chain scaling solutions to create proofs, and the proofs are created within the vehicular network itself and then communicated with Soarchain’s block-handling layer(validators).
Proof of Heartbeat
Proof of Heartbeat(PoHb) is a proof to cryptographically verify whether a device is running a specific executable to provide certain vital information about itself to prove that it is alive and functioning without any issues, and record the Merkle root generated from the time-series information samples on a ledger. There are two main reasons that PoHb is an essential component for the Soarchain network. The first reason is that Especially during the initial network growth, the low probability of vehicles achieving Proof-of-availability due to highly localized nature and proximity requirements of this proof mechanism, it is extremely important to provide Since there are direct(vehicle-to-vehicle) checks
Iotex Webstream Framework
The Proof of Availability will be executed on the Soarchain network itself and then will be written to the Soarchain blockchain. However, the Proof of Heartbeat will be generated using the Iotex Webstream Framework. MOTUS devices will send their heartbeat messages to Webstream Framework to get the proof of heartbeat of the devices to decide whether it is online or not.
For the second phase, we plan to collaborate with Iotex on vehicle data plausibility check. Every MOTUS device captures a huge amount of data from the vehicle. This data is very valuable when utilized correctly to oems, tier 1 manufacturers, sensor manufacturers and many more. This raw data needs to be pre-processed and validated before using. So, we plan to use the Iotex Webstream framework to do these plausibility checks and create proofs for the vehicle generated data.
