Recovery of lost IOTX

his is absolutely unbelievable in my opinion. Coinbase gives NO INDICATION that your IOTX wallet doesn’t actually accept 90% of IOTX? Do you think the average Coinbase user has (or should have) the level of technical knowledge necessary to distinguish between two variants of the same coin that BOTH TRADE UNDER THE SAME SYMBOL? I think this is a landmark opportunity for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau - all it takes is anyone who has received an unhelpful reply back from Coinbase to file a complaint - this is real money - Coinbase is a public company - and this incident is a black eye to Crypto, we’ve got the exchanges running prime time TV ads for a service that is ingesting billions of dollars and offers absolutely no customer support due to obvious negligence in their product. Frankly, and I would imagine several hundred people or more have been effected, this is means to create a major PR incident for coinbase, following on the tail of the hacks we’ve all heard on the news.

Please file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau - I will join you if you message me here. I too have lost funds and will initiate the request to coinbase, receive the same level of response that you have, and file a complaint with the CFPB. Please screenshot the coinbase pages you reference. You have a responsibility now to stop a company from hurting other consumers due to their negligence.

I have the same issue. I transferred from crypto.com to coinbase. This is unacceptable for IOTX and coinbase to treat its customers and supporters this way. Coinbase should have never provided an address that would not accept native IOTX and IOTX should have fixed this issue long ago.

I compel IOTX to step up to the plate and help the people who support them not just with kind words, but their hard earned money. I have close to $900 of IOTX that is missing. Please do the right thing and protect your your investors.

Supply your issue and responses from CB here, I believe in crypto but we still live in a governed country and this has been an irresponsible business practice on the part of CB and unfortunately IOTX, coinbase is I believe the most popular exchange in it’s a black eye to the whole crypto industry and a stain on these companies. Especially when it gets packaged into a story that every person can understand. I’d be looking for a solution fast if I were IOTX.

Same thing happened to me lost 15,000 tokens

Coinbase does say that it’s ERC20 and they also say that you will lose your funds if you send tokens using a non ERC20 address. The problem I have is that the ioPay screwed. I went to the ETH Network tab and scanned the ERC20 QRCode that Coinbase shows . . .but then ioPay sent it to an iotex network address. Which seems to be a bug. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was aware of the ERC20 issue and my coins are still out of my control.

I am in the same position as well. Maybe we can start a CHANGE.org petition…??

This is can be a potential legal issue for both Coinbase and Crypto.com as they both fail to advertise clearly that they are both different coins on different networks. They should both list the coins with different names in these and they should have a failsafe that detects when you place a incompatible wallet address at the time of tansfer. May become a class action lawsuit, to include damages if the value keeps appreciating. IoTex can easily resolve this by issuing replacement coins to all who are being affected.

I believe this may be the only viable solution. We fucked up, but coinbase can provide a solution. If we petition for native iotx to be added to coinbase and gather enough support, we might be able to get our tokens back. This would include getting support from Iotx team though. This will not be a quick process and we might not be able to get our tokens in time to sell at the price we would like to though.

I just don’t get it.
Ok IOTX has it’s own blockchain for years now. Coinbase accepts only ERC20 IOTX.
People have money and put them in cryptos either to support a project they believe in or to benefit financially from it.
That doesn’t mean everyone has the knowledge to do things the correct way. You can buy something from a store that you thought you like and then be able to return it. Mistakes happen, will happen and won’t stop happening. If we all did everything the right way there wouldn’t be any need for forum discussions or any form of support!
In our case, since this seems to be a problem that many people have and probably we are talking about a huge amount of money being stuck, I think that both the IoTeX team and Coinbase should cooperate to find a solution for us.
It’s not nice pointing the finger only to Coinbase when this has happened to so many people.
Yes it’s something that we did wrong. It affects a lot of us though. Not just 1 or 2 people.
IOTEX can’t just ignore it and move on!
Have they tried to contact Coinbase? Since they are the team behind IOTEX maybe they can represent us better and find a solution.
I just don’t get it why there’s no good will to help when a major problem comes up.
If I was in the IOTEX team I would find this case as an opportunity to help and maybe get on top of some news headlines.
At least attract some interest in my project the good way…
